I know, it's hard to say that an NES game would have that much impact, but it indeed did. It also started what has been so far an excellent series of games, however, this game will always remain my favorite game in the series and very close to my favorite game of all time. Afterall, I grew up with this game. :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- FAQ Revision History --------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Version 1.0: 3/1/02 -- Created the sucker! Hopefully, this thing is good to go. Otherwise, look for further updates to make this sucker look better. ;) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level One Boss: Aquamentus --------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: You really should try to get the White Sword and Blue Ring before ever entering Level One, as it is very possible to get them this early if you know how. Also useful in Level One are the arrows, which you should buy before entering. You won't be able to use them until you get the bow, but you get it here in Level One so it's not a problem! How to Kill The Boss: The basic thing to do is keep your hearts full (or use medicine right when you enter the boss room) and shot Aquamentus from across the room where it's easier to dodge it's fireballs. It'll take less shots to kill Aquamentus too by doing this. However, if you are going swordless, you can use your bow and arrows to kill it, or use bombs. Bombs are actually the quickest way to kill it, using only a single bomb! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level Two Boss: Dodongo ------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: You need bombs before you enter Level Two. Try to have them maxed out at 8 (or whatever you max is at this time) before you enter the boss room, which isn't too hard to do, since at least the room before the boss room gives you bombs as a prize for beating all the enemies in the room. How to Kill The Boss: There's a room in Level Two that gives you the hint "Dodongo Dislikes Smoke", and that should kinda clue you in on how to kill Dodongo. What it means is to use bombs. There's two ways to do this. First, you can set a bomb down next to Dodongo and paralyze it, which you can then use your sword to harm it, or you can set a bomb in front of it and have it eat it. It has to eat two bombs for it to be defeated this way. At the end of Level Two, there's only one Dodongo, but later on, you'll find Dodongo's as mini-bosses, with three of them in the same room. Defeat them in the same way as you did this one. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level Three Boss: Manhandla -------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: You might want to have the White Sword and a bunch of bombs. Arrows might help, so try to have a good bit of money. How to Kill The Boss: Manhandla is always fun to battle! If you are feeling lucky, you can attempt to use a single bomb to kill Manhandla in one shot. It's possible, but often you'll blow up two or three of the heads instead of all four, and then you're left with a fast moving single headed Manhandla, which is even harder to hit with your sword or bombs. I personally use Bombs until I run out and then use the sword. Later in the game, you'll find a Manhandla in later levels as a mini- boss. Use the same strategy as above to defeat it, but do remember that you can use the Magical Sword (the strongest sword in the game) to kill off one of the heads in a single shot. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level Four Boss: Two-Headed Gleeok ------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have the strongest sword you can get at whatever point you are at. And it wouldn't hurt to keep some medicine on you. How to Kill The Boss: Gleeok is a pain. Expect to loose a good bit of life in this match up, as you'll have to simply stand beside his head and slash away with your sword. This Gleeok has only two heads, but when you cut off one, it'll start flying around the room, shooting fireballs at you. Keep slashing at the second head and you'll have killed Gleeok when you've killed it. There is two more Gleeok's in the game, however. The next one has three heads and is located in level six. And last one is the boss for Level Eight. You should use this same strategy for them, but you may want to keep some medicine with you for them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level Five Boss: Digdogger --------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Get the whistle, which is in this level, and have some bombs on you. How to Kill The Boss: The quickest way I've found to defeat this guy is to lay down a bomb right on Digdogger in it's first form, blow the whistle before the bomb blows up, and let the bomb do some damage to the second, smaller form. Then run in with the sword (or another bomb) before it starts running around the room. You'll find more Digdoggers throughout the game, but they will break up into three smaller forms instead of just one. Just be a bit quicker after using the whistle and you should be able to use the same strategy as above on them as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level Six Boss: Ghoma -------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have the bow from Level One and have bought some arrows sometime before entering this level. Oh yeah, have some money on you. How to Kill The Boss: When you first enter the room, stand back in the doorway where the fireballs that Ghoma shoots won't hurt you. When you see it's eye open up, quickly fire off a arrow. If it hurts, you've killed it. It only takes one hit. Later, however, you'll find Ghomas that take three hits to kill. They will be a different color than the Ghoma here. However, the same strategy will the same as above. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level Seven Boss: Aquamentus ------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have either: a bomb, a sword, or the bow and arrows. How to Kill The Boss: Doesn't this guy look familiar? And he's not even stronger than the Level One version of himself, so use the same strategy. Look at the level One strategy if you've forgot how to beat the game. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level Eight Boss: Four-Headed Gleeok ----------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have the strongest sword you can get at this point in the game. How to Kill The Boss: See the Level Four boss strategy. It's the same thing. Just slash away at the heads and quick as you can. Ignore the flying heads, you can't deal any damage to them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- First Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------- ---- Level Nine Boss: Ganon ------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: You will want the silver arrows and one of the three swords in the game. The Silver arrows are right there in Level Nine. It's not a requirement to have the Magical Sword, as the instruction manual will lead you to believe. If you are playing swordless, you've made it as far as you can go. How to Kill The Boss: The best way to beat Ganon is to stand in a corner and just slash away at the air. Eventually, Ganon will "appear" close enough to you so that you'll hit him. When you hit him and he turns brown, quickly hit him with a silver arrow. Do this two more times, hitting with a total of three silver arrows, and you've won the game! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Second Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------ ---- Level One Boss: Aquamentus --------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Since the bow is located in Level 5 in the second quest, you may not have it when you come to this boss. You may not have the letter to get some medicine either. Both are valuable, though, but may not be worth the effort for you. Bombs will still help you out and they are easy to get. How to Kill The Boss: Use bombs or sword. If you are full on hearts, just stand on the other side of the room and blast Aquamentus a few times. Other wise, just stand next to him and strike him a few times. Aquamentus isn't hard. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Second Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------ ---- Level Two Boss: Two-Headed Gleeok -------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have the White Sword for this battle. With the whistle, you can get all three hidden heart pieces in the Overworld if you are willing to travel. How to Kill The Boss: Slash and slash at the Gleeok. He'll lose his head(s) eventually. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Second Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------ ---- Level Three Boss: Dodongo ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have the White Sword for this battle. With the whistle, you can get all three hidden heart pieces in the Overworld if you are willing to travel. How to Kill The Boss: There's three Dodongo's here and they aren't close to the Triforce, which is weird. Anyway, There's two ways to do this. First, you can set a bomb down next to Dodongo and paralyze it, which you can then use your sword to harm it, or you can set a bomb in front of it and have it eat it. It has to eat two bombs for it to be defeated this way. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Second Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------ ---- Level Four Boss: Digdogger --------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Get the whistle, which is in this level, and have some bombs on you. How to Kill The Boss: The quickest way I've found to defeat this guy is to lay down a bomb right on Digdogger in it's first form, blow the whistle before the bomb blows up, and let the bomb do some damage to the second, smaller form. Just be a bit quicker after using the whistle and you should be able to use the same strategy as above on them as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Second Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------ ---- Level Five Boss: Three-Headed Gleeok ----------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have, at least, the White Sword for this battle, though if you know what you are doing, you can get the Magical Sword by now. How to Kill The Boss: Slash and slash at the Gleeok. He'll lose his head(s) eventually. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Second Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------ ---- Level Six Boss: Ghoma -------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have the bow from Level One and have bought some arrows sometime before entering this level. With the whistle, you can get all three hidden heart pieces in the Overworld if you are willing to travel. Check the FAQ below for their locations. How to Kill The Boss: Slash and slash at the Gleeok. He'll lose his head(s) eventually. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Second Quest Boss Guide ------------------------------------------ ---- Level Eight Boss: Dodongo ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Preparation: Have bombs. Lots of Bombs. How to Kill The Boss: There's two ways to do this. First, you can set a bomb down next to Dodongo and paralyze it, which you can then use your sword to harm it, or you can set a bomb in front of it and have it eat it.
